One of the best things about being gluten free is how many people want to help you, and enjoy giving you recommendations. Without these, I wouldn’t have discovered so many of the little gems I frequent today! About 6 months ago, a great friend Helen recommended a new GF cafe, Beyond Bread which had opened just by our office! We went immediately, and it did not disappoint like some have in the past! A treasure trove of delights, wow, I was literally in heaven. 6 month later I can assure you my waist line is no longer in heaven as I just cannot resist the treats. Im just going to highlight some of my favorites, please check this place out whether you are gluten free or not!
The pulled pork bun. A BUN! I couldn’t believe that I had even found somewhere where the bread was this good. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Genuis & BFree products (currently being served a BFree GF roll on a Singapore airlines flight, love it!) but I’ve very rarely experienced this out and certainly not in a café, freshly served with pulled pork which simply melts in your mouth….served with a little fresh cabbage which lightens the whole meal. The girls know when I need a pick me up – this is their first port of call…and the question is always ‘pulled pork bun or brownie’.
The brownie….moist, chocalately, not too much, not too little, and I have come to believe that gluten free brownies are actually far superior to those with the bad stuff in them.
Last, but absolutely not least, the banana bread. Having lived in Sydney years back, I became obsessed with banana bread like every other European living there seems to do, and finally the craze has made its way over to the UK as a normal part to anyones ‘tea and cake’. Making it gluten free isn’t hard – I have a great recipe I will share HERE. But this is definitely a good one, well worth the try, bananery, moist and full of spices to enhance the flavor, YUM!
There is not a week that goes by that I’m in London and I don’t visit this place. The only negative is the queue its started to get at lunchtime – just don’t aim to pop out for a 5 minute lunch at 1pm – this seems to be their busy time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
